 Arizona Higher Education Loan Authority (AHELA) is the state designated loan provider for state students­. AHELA offers low-cost Federal Stafford and Federal PLUS loans to Arizona students and parents with generous interest rate discounts and incentives. ­

AHELA Loan Programs

Federal Stafford Loans

The Federal Stafford Loan is a low-interest student loan offered to both undergraduate and graduate students alike living and studying in Arizona. Students are offered 0.50% Interest rate reduction upon entering repayment and continuing as long as the borrower continues to make on-time payments.  In addition to that they are offered 0.25% Interest rate reduction for enrolling in automatic payments through your savings or checking account.

Federal Grad PLUS Loan

The Federal Grad PLUS Loan allows graduate and professional students to pay for additional educational expenses, not covered by financial aid. AHELA offers 0.50% Interest rate reduction upon entering repayment and continuing as long as the borrower continues to make on-time payments. It also offers 0.50% Interest rate reduction for enrolling in automatic payments through your savings or checking account.

Federal PLUS Loans

The Federal Parent PLUS Loan is a loan for parents to help their children pay for their education. All parents of dependent students are eligible to apply for the PLUS loan. Parents may borrow up to the full cost of education minus other financial aid received. You are not required to have financial need to apply for the PLUS loan and no collateral is required. However, they must be creditworthy. AHELA offers 0.50% Interest rate reduction upon entering repayment and continuing as long as the borrower continues to make on-time payments. It also offers 0.50% Interest rate reduction for enrolling in automatic payments through your savings or checking account.

Private Loans

Arizona students may also be eligible for Private Loans.  However, these loans are not managed by AHELA.  Students shall contact their financial aid office to learn more. 

Arizona Student Loan Consolidation

Arizona students are eligible for consolidating their student loans through Federal loan consolidation program. 

Arizona Student Loan Forgiveness Program

Arizona students may be eligible for loan forgiveness if they are pursuing careers in the fields of Nursing or Teaching.  Students shall contact their financial aid adviser to learn more.
