Arkansas Student Loan Authority
ASLA is the primary organization which manages student loans for Arkansas students. The Authority participates in the following federal loan programs:
- Federal Stafford (student) Loan, subsidized and unsubsidized
- Federal Graduate PLUS Loan
- Federal Parent PLUS Loan
Students applying for the Arkansas Sudent Loan shall fill out a Free Federal Student Aid Application. Paents interested in PLUS Loan shall contact Financial Aid Office of their child's college or university.
The Student Loan Guarantee Foundation of Arkansas is one of the main loan guarantors of Arkansas Student Loans.
Arkansas Student Loan Forgiveness
Students who work in an impoverished districts may qualify for student loan forgiveness The Higher Education Amendments of 1998 provided for a loan forgiveness program for borrowers who are not in default and who have been employed as full-time teachers for 5 consecutive years in a school that qualifies for cancellation. The amount forgiveness cannot exceed $5,000 of the aggregate loan amount that is outstanding after completion of the fifth complete year of teaching. Students working in the health care fields such as nursing may qualify for the loan forgiveness as well.
Arkansas Student Loan Consolidation
