Scholarships for Students with Cleft Palate
Cleft Palate is a birth defect where there is a separation in a student lip or palate. But this birth defect should not come into the of a stduent's academic acheivements. To encourage students with Cleft Palate to pursue a college degree some organizations have come up with scholarships. Below is a discussion:
Cleft Palate Foundation College Scholarships for Students with Craniofacial Anomalies
Each year, the Cleft Palate Foundation awards $500 scholarships to a minimum of three full-time undergraduate and/or graduate students with craniofacial anomalies. Each scholarship goes toward the cost one year of school, and recipients who maintain an overall grade point average of at least 3.0 may re-apply for future scholarships. Selection is based on past academic success, evidence of leadership skills and/or community and school involvement as well as strong indications of future academic success.
Virginia Smiles Scholarship
Virginia Smiles awards a $1,000 scholarship to a student who meets the following criteria:
- The student must be a resident of Virginia and born with a cleft;
- The student must be registered to attend an accredited post-secondary educational institution;
- The student must submit a 500 word essay explaining why he/she deserves to be awarded the scholarship.
- The student must attend the Virginia Smiles Annual Family Picnic to receive the award, prepare a short acceptance speech, and talk with other families of children born with a cleft.
Florida Cleft Palate-Craniofacial Association Scholarship
FCPCA offers an annual scholarsship to students with Cleft Palate. The scholarship amount is $1500 per year.
