Even though USA is an equal opportunity society and women have equal rights, unfortunately they were always discriminated when it came to career and education. They were expected to stay at home and raise children. But things are changing slowly. Take example first we had Hillary Clinton as a presidential candidate and now Sarah Palin is running for the VP position.  Today, not only colleges and universities but also a lot of employers and professional organizations are giving away scholarships for women. As a matter of fact, for almost all of the scholarships discussed in other categories women are qualified. You must check all the scholarships discussed in those sections based on yoru interest. Even with all the great scholarships discussed in other sections, below are some highly recognized scholarships for women. If you are a receipient of one of these scholarships, your value in the employment market will also go higher.

American Association of University Women Fellowships

Society of Women in Engineering Scholarships

The SWE Scholarship Program provides financial assistance to women studying for careers in engineering, engineering technology and computer science. All SWE Scholarships are open only to women pursuing baccalaureate or graduate degrees in engineering or computer science at an ABET-accredited institute. Scholarships for Women in Arts

While a lot of colleges and universities have scholarships for engineering and athletics, very few have scholarships for arts, especially for women in arts. However we have been able to discover a few scholarship for women in arts. Below is the list of the scholarships: 1. College Art Association - Professional Development Fellowships 2. Blanche E. College and University Scholarships for Women

Women should visit their financial aid and minority offices to learn about women specific scholarships available to them. Below are some of the college scholarships for women we came across: Cornell University Scholarship Cornell university offers a variety of women scholarships. Please visit Cornell Scholarship Database to learn more about them. University of Iowa Scholarship University of Iowa oofers Adele Kimm Scholarship in Women's Studies. Women majoring in Women's Studies with a strong academic record can apply for this scholarhsip. Similarly they also offer Velma E. Stuit Scholarships for women in mathematics and science. Professional and Career Advancement Scholarships

If you are a woman serious about profession or career advancement then you have lot of options to get a scholarship. The best way to qualify for such scholarships is by joining a professional organization. In addition to the AAUW scholarship discussed above below are some scholarships for professional and career advancement.

WCR 2007 Scholarship & Internship Program Funded by culinary school partners and scholarship hosts, Women Chefs & Restaurateurs organization now distributes over one hundred thousand dollars every year to Women Chefs for the education and career advancement. World Studio Foundation Worldstudio offers AIGA Scholarship to minority and economically disadvantaged students who are studying the design/arts disciplines in colleges and universities in the United States. You can learn more about the scholarship by going to WSF website.

Talbots Women's Scholarship Fund Talbots Women's Scholarship Fund gives scholarships to women who earned their high school diploma or GED at least 10 years ago and are now determined to get their college degree but were unable to do it due to unfavorable circumstances. All applicants must be seeking an undergraduate degree from an accredited two- or four-year college or university, or vocational-technical school. Scholarship awards are based primarily on financial need and previous achievements. Judges by some of the high profile women, this scholarship is truly one of its kind. AARP Foundation Women's Scholarship Program This scholarship is offered by AARP Foundation and the Women’s Leadership Circle. The Women’s Scholarship Program gives a helping hand to women over 40. This scholarship helps women gain better skills to find a better paying job.

Additional Professional Schoarships There are several other women specific scholarships. For example, Association for Women In Science Educational Foundation. NCAA Ethnic Minority and Women’s Scholarships The Ethnic Minority and Women's Enhancement Postgraduate Scholarship for Careers in Athletics program awards 13 scholarships to ethnic minorities and 13 scholarships to female college graduates entering into a sports administration or other program that will help the applicant obtain a career in intercollegiate athletics, such as athletics administrator, coach, athletic trainer or other career in intercollegiate athletics. $6000 Varies
Justice Janie L. Shores Scholarship Funded by the Alabama State Bar Association, the Justice Janie L. Shores Scholarship is awarded to one or more female Alabama residents attending an Alabama law school. Varies Varies Montgomery
