Government Financial Aid
Marines are eligible to get 100 percent of your education expenses may paid by the federal government through programs like Tuition Assistance, the Montgomery GI Bill and the Marine Corps College Fund while in service. They may earn a 2 year or a 4 year college degree and may also go for advance Master’s Degrees and law degrees under the Advanced Degree Program, Special Education Program and Funded Law Program. After the service, these education benefits extend long beyond active duty and are awarded based on the number of years served and the specific education program in which you enroll.
Scholarships for Marine Families and Marine Wives
Marine Corps Scholarship Fund
The Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation offers scholarships to sons and daughters of current or former United States Marines. One-year scholarships in the amounts of $1,000 -$12,500 are awarded annually for undergraduate studies at accredited educational and/or technical institutions. The "Heroes Tribute Scholarships" in the amount of $30,000 is given to the children of Marines whose parent is killed in the ongoing Global War on Terror.
Travers Education Loan
The Travers Interest Free Loan can provide children of active duty and retired marines with a loan ranging from $500 up to $3,000. Service members who take out a Travers Loan must arrange to repay the loan within 24 months by allotment of pay. The minimum loan amount is $500, and the minimum monthly payment of $50.
Marine Corps League Scholarship
This scholarships is for qualified applicants who are pursuing full time undergraduate or technical training at a full time recognized institution. The qualified individuals include:
- Spouses, Children, Grandchildren, Great Grandchildren and Step Children of a Marine Corps League or Auxiliary member in good standing,
- Children of Marines who have lost their lives in the line of duty
- Members of the Marine Corps League or Auxiliary in good standing or honorably discharged Marines in need of rehabilitation training not provided by government programs.
1st Marine Division Association Scholarships
This scholarship offers up to $1,750 per academic year are awarded to full time, undergraduate students who are attending an accredited college, university, or higher technical trade school, up to a maximum of four years. This scholarship is designed for dependents of honorably discharged veterans, now deceased from any cause or totally and permanently disabled, who served in a unit that was part of, attached to, or operating in support of, the 1st Marine Division.
4th Marine Division Association Scholarships
4th Marine Division Association of World War II, the 6th Marine Division Association offers scholarships to dependents of honorably discharged veterans, now deceased from any
cause or totally and permanently disabled, who served in a unit that
was part of, attached to, or operating in their support. The eligible applicant has a maximum family adjusted gross income of $65,000 or less. The limit increases by $10,000 if an applicant's sibling also applies.
