Big Apple and Upstate Scholarships
New York city has the highest population in any US city and New York state is the third most populated state in the US. The high population also makes it also a home to some of the world's best colleges and universities with a large number of students looking for scholarship. While New York is assumed to be a rich city with highly paid bankers and executive, the city and other areas of the New York do have students who need financial aid to puruse their education dreams. HESC the New York State Higher Education Services corporation helps students get scholarships and grants.
Airforce Scholarships for New York State Students
Air Force ROTC offers full tution scholarships to students who are currently in high school as well as those who are enrolled in colleges. These scholarships are avaialble to students from the following New York institutes:

- FORDHAM UNIVERSITY, NY
- LE MOYNE COLLEGE, NY
- MANHATTAN COLLEGE, NY
- RENSSELAER POLYTECHNIC INSTITUTE, NY

- SYRACUSE UNIVERSITY, NY
In order to apply student must meet specific temporal, physical and academic requirements and go through a scholarship interview.
Bridgewater State Incentive Grant
Incomding freshmen and transfers from New York are eligigble for a renewable state grant called the The Bridgewater College State Incentive Grant.
Flight 3407 Memorial Scholarships
If you are a dependent of an individual who was killed in Continental Airlines Flight 3407 in Clarence, New York on February 12, 2009, enrolled full time in a postsecondary institution in New York State, has a good academic standing and you are not in default of a student then you may qualify for one of the two scholarship programs:
- SUNY or CUNY Systems, full tuition, fees, room, board, commuter allowance, books, supplies and transportation.
- If you are enrolled at a private institution you will get the equivalent of SUNY benefits.
In order to apply you must go through HESC.
Western New York Schoalrships
The Community Foundation of Greater Buffallo offers scholarships to current residents of the eight counties of Western New York: Allegany, Cattaraugus, Chautauqua, Erie, Genesee, Niagara, Orleans and Wyoming. Student must be enrolled in a post secondary institute in an undergraduate program or a graduate program in architecture, arts, engineering, medicine, nursing, piano, environment, and wildlife. They must qualify for Pell grant to increase their odds to win this scholarship.
Part-Time TAP Program
Part-Time TAP gives a tuition grant to New York freshmen enrolled part time at a post secondary institution, who have earned 12 credits or more in each of the two consecutive semesters, for a minimum total of 24 credits earned with a "C" average on a part-time basis pay for tuition. They should be enrolled in at least 6 but fewer than 12 credits per semester or at least 4 but fewer than 8 credits per trimester at one of the The State University of New York (SUNY), The City University of New York (CUNY) or a Not-for-profit independent degree granting colleges. The student must be financially eligible.
New York University Scholarships
The Scholarships for Academic Excellence
The PreCollegiate Preparation Programs and Scholarships Unit of New York State Education Department offers $1500 scholarships to residents of New York State.
With such a huge population of immigrants and minorities, the state governemnt and institutions are making sure that everyone get adquate education. The Science and Technology Entry Program (STEP) program allows minorities such as Hispanics, Asian Indians, Asians, Filipinos, African Americans and Women, and other financially disadvantaged students to get education in science and technology. The Regents Health Care Scholarship Program is to helps minority and disadvantaged individuals in the medical and dental professions. The Professional Opportunity Scholarships (POS) is awarded to eligible students beginning or already enrolled in an approved, licensure-qualifying degree at a New York State postsecondary institution in one of the designated professions such as Acupuncture, Athletic Trainer, Architecture, Audiology, Certified Public Accountancy, Chiropractic, Dental Hygiene, Dietetics/Nutrition, Interior Design, Landscape Architecture, Law, Massage Therapy, Midwifery, Nurse Practitioner, Occupational Therapy, Occupational Therapy Assistant, Ophthalmic Dispensing, Optometry, Pharmacy, Physical Therapy, Physical Therapy Assistant, Podiatry, Professional Engineering, Psychology, Registered Nurse, Registered Physician Assistant, Respiratory Therapy, Social Work, Speech-Language Pathology, Veterinary Technician and Veterinary Medicine.
Federal Scholarships for New York Residents
The $1,500 Robert C. Byrd Honors Scholarship is offered to 400 high school graduates or persons who earn a New York State high school equivalency diploma. The scholarship money may be used in any approved institution of higher education in the United States, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, Guam, the Northern Mariana Islands, American Samoa, Palau, the Federated States of Micronesia, or the Marshall Islands. It doesn't apply to any of the armed forces schools.
New York Physician Loan Forgiveness Program
This $10000 loan forgiveness scholarship program is designed for primary care physicians who are willing to work in the shortage areas of New York state.
NYS Memorial Scholarships
This scholarship is available to Families of Deceased Firefighters, Volunteer Firefighters, Police Officers, Peace Officers and Emergency Medical Service Workers who have died as the result of injuries sustained in the line of duty in service to the State of New York.
The New York State Restaurant Association offers a scholarship to students interested in Culinary. The scholarship program is a partnership between NYSRA’s Educational Foundation and the National Restaurant Association’s national initiative. It is refered as a School-to-Career Program called ProStart.
Marymount Manhattan College, Borough Of Manhattan Community College, Barnard College and Columbia University all have their own scholarships for New York Residents. For example, Manhattan college offers a great Study Abroad scholarship to New York students.
Upstate Newyork Scholarships
Upstate Newyork students have some scholarships specially for them. For example, Syracuse University offers an IT scholarship. Similarly the Better Business Bureau offers two scholarships The AT&T / BBB Science and Technology Scholarship Award, The BBB Student of Integrity Award to students from upstate.
World Trade Center Memorial Scholarship
The NYS World Trade Center Memorial Scholarship program offers college education to the dependents of the victims who died or were severely and permanently disabled in the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.
Liberty Partnerships Program
Liberty Partnerships Programs offer comprehensive pre-collegiate/dropout prevention programs and services to youth in Urban, Rural and Suburban communities of Western New York, Finger Lakes, Central New York, Southern Tier, North Country, Mohawk Valley, Capital District, Mid-Hudson Valley, NYC and Long Island.
New York Nursing Scholarships
The Senator Patricia K. McGee Nursing Faculty Scholarship program offers scholarships to candidates pursuing a career in teaching nursing education in New York State.
New York Teaching Scholarships
The NYS Math & Science Teaching Incentive scholarship provides grants to eligible full-time undergraduate or graduate students intereted in teaching math or science teaching.
