Scholarships for International Students

International Students Scholarships

International Students not only support US economy by paying higher tuition at US colleges and universities but also become high earners after graduating from colleges.  Most of the international students who come to US either end up staying and working here after graduating or go back to their home country to work for US based multi-nationals.  However, not every international student has enough financial resources to afford US tuition and living expenses. To support such students, several organizations have internatinoal scholarships.

American Society of Mechanical Engineers Scholarships

To encourage international students pursue their education in the filed of mechincal engineering, ASME offers several scholarships to international students. 

  • The $5,000 Willis F. Thompson Memorial Scholarship is awarded to help three mechanical engineering students who are interested in field of power generation.
  • The $4500 Garland Duncan Scholarships is for students enrolled in an ABET accredited or mechanical engineering, mechanical engineering technology or related program. The winners are selected based on leadership, scholastic ability, potential contribution to the mechanical engineering profession and financial need.
  • The  $4,000 International Gas Turbine Institute (IGTI) Scholarship is awarded every year based on superior academic performance and demonstrated interest in the gas turbine, propulsion, or turbomachinery industries to an undergraduate or graduate student. 
  • The two $4,000 Melvin R. Green Scholarships are provided to students enrolled in an ABET accredited or substantially equivalent mechanical engineering, mechanical engineering technology or related baccalaureate program. The award recipient will be selected on the basis of leadership, scholastic ability, potential contribution to the mechanical engineering profession and financial need.
  •  The $2,500 ASME Foundation Hanley Scholarship is for students pursuing an undergraduate degree in mechanical engineering. Applicants must be enrolled at an ABET accredited, or substantially equivalent mechanical engineering, mechanical engineering technology or related baccalaureate program.  Preference will be given to applicants demonstrating financial need.  Scholastic ability and potential contribution to the mechanical engineering profession will also be considered.

University of Virginia Scholarships

Darden Business School at UV offers a number of merit based scholarships to international students.  Some of these scholarships can pay either half or full tution.   Applicants are selected based on their application and interview.  Some of these scholarships are also exclusive to Israeli or Chinese students funded by the alumni from Israel and China.

Columbia International Scholarships

Columbia College in Columbia, MO offers a number of scholarships ranging from $500 to full tuition to international students.  These scholarships include both merit and competition based.  Students can get an athletic scholarship or a talent award for a specific talent.  Female business students can also qualify for specialized scholarships. 

The John F Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University (HKS) Scholarships

The John F Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University (HKS) offers need based limited financial aid to international students.  Students are required to work through HKS financial aid office to get these scholarships.  

University of North Texas Scholarships

UNT offers a number of scholarships to international students.  Students can get a merit based general academic scholarship or a Board of Regents Scholarship.  Transfer students with 3.5 GPA  and 45 credits can qualify for $1000 dolalrs.  Students may also qualify for departmental scholarships. 

Carleton College Scholarships

Carleton college offers a number of scholarships to international students especially from asian countries and developing nations. 

  • Starr Scholarship Program offers assistance to qualified students from Asia for four years of study at Carleton. The scholarship will provide up to the full comprehensive fee, which includes tuition, fees, room, board, Carleton health insurance, and one round trip ticket.
  • Kellogg Scholarship Program provides assistance to non-U.S. citizens who are not permanent residents toward their expenses at Carleton.
  • George Scholarship Program supports students from developing nations who demonstrate financial need and exceptional academic potential and promise.

International Scholarships for Women

  • Amelia Earhart Fellowships (Zonta International Foundation) offers $6,000 stipend to approximately 35 women who have a superior academic record and a bachelor's degree in science or engineering.
  • American Association for University Women offers $18,000 to $30,000 for full-time study or research to women who are not U.S. citizens or permanent residents; graduate and
    postgraduate study is supported.

Armenian American Medical Association Students studying in a private medical school at one of the New England states which is composed of Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Vermont are eligible for this scholarship. $3000 October 20th Watertown
Armenian Professional Society of the Bay Area This scholarship is for students interested in Armenian studies programs, elementary and secondary level teaching careers in Armenian schools. $2000 November 15th San Francisco
Emmanuel Bible College Armenian Scholarship Students who are interested in working as a minister, evangelist, missionary, or youth director after graduation can get this scholarship. Varies June 30th Pasadena
Armenian Students Association Scholarship This ASA scholarship is created for both undergraduate and graduate students. The scholarship is also open to international students of Armenian descent. Sophomores at a 4 year college, or transfer students from a 2 year college or students earning a masters degree qualify for this scholarship. Varies March 15th Warwick
Union of Marash Armenian Scholarships Descendant of a Marashtsi - Armenia are eligible to receive up to $1000 in scholarships. $1000 July 31st Great Neck
Franco Zeffirelli Scholarship Fund for the Arts This scholarships is for international students from Italy who have graduated from he Istituto Statale d’Arte of Florence. Students can use this scholarship to study Art in New York. Varies Varies New York
