Scholarships for Southern University

Southern University and A&M College offer Graduate Assistantships/Fellowships and Scholarships to students through various departments. Several teaching, research, and service assistantships, doctoral fellowships, are awarded each year to students pursuing either a master’s or doctoral degree. Graduate students in good academic standing can be appointed to graduate assistantships or awarded fellowships provided they are not admitted on conditional or provisional status are not eligible for financial aid, including graduate assistantships/fellowships. International students with a current and valid Visa are also eligible. All students enrolling with provisional or conditional status who are awarded financial assistance by their departments or divisions, must carry a full-time load and achieve a cumulative GPA of 3.0 in the first semester of enrolling and maintain a GPA of 3.0 in order to be considered for assistance during subsequent enrollment periods.

Board of Regents Graduate Fellowship
The Louisiana Educational Quality Support Fund offers Board of Regents’ Graduate Fellowships to exceptional students. These awards are valued at $12,000 to $17,000 per year for up to four years. Academic departments eligible for these awards vary from year to year. Most major areas—including the humanities, social sciences, basic sciences, education, agriculture, and engineering—are included annually.

Graduate Scholarships
The Graduate School and various academic departments offer a number of fellowships and scholarships on the basis of academic achievements. At the master’s degree level, preference is usually given to students who are enrolled in research or thesis programs. Academic departments select the recipients of their awards.
